Get ready to tackle the
trail with the redesigned and improved Adidas Supernova Riot GTX 5. This newly
released product is one of the waterproof models of world-recognized shoe
manufacturer, Adidas. When it comes to performance shoes, the brand makes sure
that their products are at par with the expectations of the active community,
whether on the trail or track. Coming from the Supernova collection, the Adidas
Supernova Riot GTX 5 is constructed with premium cushioning, top-notch rubber
and stitched-on GORE-TEX membrane to keep the feet dry and warm all day, no
matter how wet the environment gets. As a long-time runner with a lot of
experience on the track and trail, it is my pleasure to try the new Adidas
Supernova Riot GTX 5 and see if it can fare well in the category of trail
running shoes.
Arch Support and
Pronation Control
The
Adidas Supernova Riot GTX is considered a neutral training shoe, based on its
arch support. It is properly cushioned, but still leaves the runner a feel of
the ground. Neutral shoes are said to be a hybrid of minimalist shoes and
stability shoes. Despite the heaviness and bulk of the Adidas Supernova Riot
GTX, its arch support is designed for a better and well-cushioned natural
running technique. The pronation control of the Adidas Supernova Riot GTX is
aimed for those who under-pronate or supinators. Under pronation occur when the
foot naturally rolls outwards, rather than inwards. The medial support of the
shoe would help correct this biomechanical problem.
Terrain
The
Adidas Supernova Riot GTX is built for the trail, off-road and mountain
terrain. Its outsole has a unique treading style that features Continental
Rubber and TRAXION technology. Trail and mountain terrain are often dotted with
shallow puddles of water or mud from rain showers. With the Adidas Supernova
Riot GTX, trekking through the puddles would be hassle-free, and you won’t
worry about the damage it would cause to your shoes. Your feet would be kept
warm and dry throughout your run, which is an excellent ending to a productive
day.
Use
The
use of the product could sometimes be determined by its weight. In this case,
the Adidas Supernova Riot GTX is a considered training shoe.
Durability
The
Adidas Supernova Riot GTX is constructed from premium materials that make it
durable and comfortable. In trail running, the part that is most vulnerable to
wear and tear is the outsole. As compared to running on the track, there is
much debris that could lodge between the treading of Adidas Supernova Riot GTX
or tear it little by little. The good thing is that the Adidas chose only the
best of their outsole technologies to boost overall durability. It also has a
special mud- release surface that squishes all the mud from the treading and
out of the outsole.
Outer Sole
The
outsole of the shoe is made from AdiWEAR rubber, a non-marking compound which
is used on the brand’s various performance shoes. This material adds to the
durability of the shoe and improves cushioning to reduce landing impact. On the
undersurface, the treading style is a unique zigzag that fares well on uneven
terrain. The Continental Rubber has a mud- release surface to get rid of mud
easily. There is a de-coupled heel that adapts to any terrain and ensures a
comfortable and smooth stride, thanks to FORMOTION technology. Lastly, the
TRAXION technology is incorporated to boost the durability of the under surface
and improve the traction of the shoe on different surfaces, may it be dry or
wet.
Midsole
The
midsole of the Adidas Supernova Riot GTX have not undergone major improvements
because it is already excellent to begin with. The AdiPRENE cushioning is
present in the heel to protect the foot from landing impact. On the forefoot,
there is the AdiPRENE+ technology to encourage a dynamic toe-off for better
strides. The removable foot bed is made from molded EVA sock liner to improve
the cushioning and absorb most of the shock from impacts. Its best feature is
probably the PRO-MODERATOR device which is placed in between the midsole and
outsole. It provides media support and prevents runners from over-pronating.
Over pronation is a biomechanical problem which prevents the shock from
spreading evenly on the foot; thus, causes pain in every stride.
Upper
The
upper body of the Adidas Supernova Riot GTX is made of air mesh lining, with
micro-suede overlay at the front for better flexibility and comfort. The tongue
of the shoe hides a neoprene compartment which allows runners to tuck their
laces in. The sides are fully protected with a GORETEX membrane, making it
waterproof. In addition, the Adidas Supernova Riot GTX has a GEOFIT
construction which tightly molds into the foot and keeps it secure when running
under varying conditions.
When it comes to
waterproof features, the spotlight does not only shine on the Adidas Supernova
Riot GTX. There is also another shoe that is a strong contender in terms of
water resistance, comfort, support and stability. However, this shoe is made
for the road instead of the trail. If you are a professional runner who likes
to run on both trail and track, you must invest in the Adidas Supernova Riot
GTX, as well as the Adidas Supernova Glide Gore-Tex. Nothing beats the quality
they provide in running, no matter what elements you are facing.
Price
The
Adidas Supernova Riot GTX is originally priced at $125. For casual runners,
this might seem like a big investment to make. However, if they are set on
leaving the pavement and explore off-road terrain, this product is a good model
that would last for long.
